The Seven Sacraments

Encountering Christ through the sacred mysteries of the Church

The sacraments are outward signs instituted by Christ to give grace. Through them, we encounter Jesus and receive God's blessing in our lives. The Catholic Church celebrates seven sacraments, which are divided into three categories: Sacraments of Initiation, Sacraments of Healing, and Sacraments of Service.

Baptism

Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation and the gateway to all other sacraments. Through baptism, we become children of God, members of the Church, and are cleansed from original sin.

Confirmation

Confirmation completes baptismal grace. Through this sacrament, we receive the Holy Spirit more fully, are strengthened in faith, and become more perfectly bound to the Church.

Holy Communion (Eucharist)

The Eucharist is the source and summit of Catholic life. In this sacrament, we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, truly present under the appearances of bread and wine.

Reconciliation (Confession)

Also known as Penance or Confession, this sacrament offers God's forgiveness for sins committed after Baptism. Through this sacrament, we are reconciled with God and the Church.

Anointing of the Sick

This sacrament provides spiritual healing and strength to those who are seriously ill, elderly, or preparing for surgery. It can be received multiple times during illness.

Holy Orders

Through Holy Orders, men are ordained to serve the Church as deacons, priests, or bishops. This sacrament imparts a sacred power and responsibility to shepherd God's people.

Matrimony (Marriage)

The Sacrament of Matrimony unites a man and woman in a lifelong covenant of love, mirroring Christ's love for the Church. Marriage is a sacred bond blessed by God.
